Amy
Name: Amy Green Dancin’ Queen
Age: 33
Occupation: TV Producer / Director
Where are you from? Originally Hale in Cheshire but grew up in beautiful Herefordshire. I now live and work in London.
What do you like doing when you’re not rowing an ocean? I love rowing on the River Thames with my club Putney Town RC and any other sports (even Dragon boating!) or dashing around – I can’t sit still really, apart from when I’m at the cinema with my Cinema Club (2 members!). I love walking (I recently did the 3 Peaks Challenge for Meningitis Trust), running (marathons, half marathons and fun runs), eating out and hot chocolate with pals. My secret passion though is reflexology – bliss.
Why do you want to row across the Indian Ocean? In May 2008 I was a member of a crew that took part in an extreme and pioneering challenge – rowing from London to Paris. I absolutely loved it and so the Indian Ocean is the obvious choice. Once you get the bug you just can’t stop (that sounds rather similar to the Pringles slogan and yes, I quite like them).
Most looking forward to? The stars. The fresh air. The smell of the sea. Laughing with the girls.
Least looking forward to? Bottom blisters!
What will you miss most while you're on the boat? A comfy bed, hot showers, fresh fruit smoothies, being warm and dry……. and lots of my pals weddings (I’ll be with them in spirit though). Oh and friends and family of course.
What food will you crave? Falafel wraps (an odd choice I know), thick Spanish hot chocolate and Debbie’s watercress soup.
Luxury item on the boat: Sprig of ‘fresh’ Lavendar and my book of thoughts/messages that I compiled for L2P rowing race – I shall ask pals to add to it for the Indian Ocean adventure.
First drink in Mauritius? Mango and passion fruit smoothie (if they have it).
Favourite quote? I need to think about this answer but instant answers are:- ‘All things must pass’. ‘Everything is possible’ (Amy Green 08). Now I've thought about it: “Ordinary riches can be stolen, real riches cannot. In your soul are infinitely precious things that cannot be taken from you." Oscar Wilde.
Claim to fame? I hung out with Huggie Bear at his house in USA - and 'borrowed' some of his nice aftershave from his bathroom.
Achievements to date? FLM 07; Great River Race 07; L2P 08; 3 Peaks 08;
Secret skill? I can touch my nose with my tongue (big nose or big tongue – you decide!)
