9 wks at sea...

21 Jun 2009

Today marks 9weeks of being at sea, 63 days in total so far, and the miles are ticking down faster each day. We have re-adjusted our watches on board so are now on the Mauritian time zone - yey! Another reminder we are so so close. All this has got us thinking about time, and what our friends, families and supporters may have been doing with their 1,512 hours that have passed whilst we have been at sea.

So we reckon Mr or Mrs Joe Bloggs will have done the following during the last 63 days...

- slept for 504 hours in a warm comfy bed
- had around 95 baths or showers
- been out for dinner 5 times
- spent around 360 hours working
- exercised for about 27 hours
- watched 126 hours of TV
- whiled away 72 hours in the pub

In comparison each of us aboard our 29ft dink has done the following...

- slept for around 280 hours in a damp, smelly cabin
- eaten 220 mushy meals out of a bag
- consumed 189 chocolate bars
- eaten 62 and a quarter slices of peach (they are a precious treat on this boat so ensuring everyone has exactly the same amount is vital!!)
- drunk around 200 litres of desalinated water
- spent 622 hours on the oars, during which we will have taken approximately 821,040 strokes!
- applied around 5 litres of sunscreen
- bashed our shins around 150 times
- had just one hug, a sorry state of affairs but the tight rowing schedule and lack of space are not conducive to hugging
- had around 50 tonnes of water dumped upon our heads via countless waves and squalls
- cursed the sea too many times to mention!
- sworn never to step foot in a ocean rowing boat again approximately 50 times
- applied sudocrem/vaseline to our sore bottoms around 126 times

And after reading all that you are wondering what on earth possess us to put ourselves through all this, well that comes down to the most important fact of all, that since setting out to sea 63 days ago 3,150 women in the UK will have been diagnosed with Breast Cancer. So if you have enjoyed our blog over the last 9 weeks please please click on the Justgiving link from this site and help support our very worthy charity. Thank you.
